Het meest beroemde van de vele Havana merken begon pas in 1935 als een nieuw merk van Menendez, Garcia y Cia., op dat moment de eigenaren van de H. Upmann fabriek.
De naam is naar verluidt geïnspireerd op Alexandre Dumas' roman uit 1844 "Le Comte de Montecristo".
Met de sterke marketing inspanningen van Alfred Dunhill uit Londen, werd dit merk het meest populair van alle Havanas.
De kracht is medium, in feite, is het uitgegroeid tot de standaard waaraan alle andere Havanas nu worden beoordeeld.
