Een nieuw merk dat in 1966 werd geboren en in 1969 werd geïntroduceerd.
Cohiba werd al snel het belangrijkste merk binnen de Cubaanse sigarenindustrie.
In eerste instantie ontwikkeld als een medium bodied protocol sigaar dat als staatsgeschek door ambtenaren van de Cubaanse regering werd gepresenteerd.
Cohiba werd op de commerciele markt gebracht in 1982.
De eerste maten waren de lancero, de Corona Especiales en de Panetela.
De Esplendido, Robusto en Exquisito werden toegevoegd in 1989.
In 1992, als groet aan de 500e verjaardag van de ontdekking van Columbus van het Caribisch gebied, werd de Siglo serie geïntroduceerd.
In 2005 de Maduro 5 serie, de enige maduro van het eiland Cuba en in 2010 de nieuwste Behike serie.
De Cohiba-serie werd oorspronkelijk gemaakt in de El Laguito fabriek in Havana, maar de
productie vind nu ook plaats in de Fernando Perez German (Partagas) fabriek.
