La Gloria Cubana
Year of foundation: 1885
Tobacco Country: Cuba
Tobacco Procedence: Vuelta Abajo
A very old brand that dates from 1885, "the Glory of Cuba" presents (when available) two cigar sizes in a small, but beautifully made range.
The strength is medium; note that this is one of the few brands which is only handmade.
Developed by Jose Rocha and Rafael Garcia, the brand got off to a good start thanks to tireless promotion by Pepin Fernandez, owner of the Romeo y Julieta brand, who helped his friends introduce the La Gloria Cubana and El Crepusculo brands overseas.
La Casa del Habano - Amsterdam considers this brand as the most beautiful and elegant of all Cuban cigar brands.
La Gloria Cubana is a current pre-revolution brand that was established in 1885. It lapsed in 1959 and was reinstated circa 1965.
It is classified by Habanos SA as a local brand, and has a minor market share.
The range comprises medium strength cigars using tobacco from the premium Vuelta Abajo region.
Current production consists of two handmade cigars.
La Gloria Cubana cigars were included in the 1999 release of the Siglo XXI Humidor.
Since 2008 there have been further Special Releases.
